We think the best technique for filling your pipeline is to build
your own list. You may, however, need to refresh your own list from
time to time. Below we list a few links to list sources.
- infoUSA (www.infousa.com)
Over 14 million U.S. businesses & 1.2 million Canadian businesses!
Select by Job Title, Business Type, Sales, Number of Employees,
Credit Rating, etc.
- GreatLists.com (www.greatlists.com)
Free directory for locating business-to-business mailing lists.
Includes searchable database of lists that can be broken down
by industry. Also FAQs page offers useful information about using
mailing lists.
- American City Business Journals (www.bizjournals.com)
Good resource for local and new business lists.
As professionals that use e-mail in marketing, we take pride in
using e-mail responsibly. Unfortunately, today many individuals
are abusing e-mail to the detriment of us all. Our own staff receives
hundreds of unwanted e-mail daily. We have found some tools to manage
this flood of time-wasting e-mails. Hope the following information
helps your productivity.
- MailWasher (www.mailwasher.net)
This program is very simple (and free). With Mailwasher, you download
the header information of your email and leave the body of the
message on your ISP's server. By just getting the e-mail header,
you realize many advantages. First, the process is very fast.
Secondly, you can see the sender's name and the message size.
You can delete a message without downloading or you can "bounce"
an obvious spam message. When you select "bounce", Mailwasher
fabricates a "user unknown error." The sender of the
spam receives a message that your e-mail is no longer valid. If
you respond with a "take my name off your e-mail list"
message, you are actually encouraging more spam - as the sender
now knows that your e-mail is valid. It's a strange world on the
Internet. After you have deleted and bounced your unwanted mail
through Mailwasher, you then download the remaining good stuff.
In our office, "good" e-mail is about one out of ten
messages.
- Spamcop (www.spamcop.net)
If you want to report a spammer, this site is the place to do
so. The system offers a free and nominal fee versions. With the
fee version, you can have e-mail filtered for you. While you are
on vacation, for example, the system can be used to filter spam
into a spam file. When you return from vacation, you can then
spend time on the more critical e-mail messages - before you plow
through the spam.
